face of the day + mascara talk.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector SPF 25+ in Opal ($41); NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny ($2.99); Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed ($26); Nars Concealer in Ginger ($23); Boxom Sculpted Lash Mascara ($19); Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Ebony ($23); The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser ($18); Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Barcelona ($44); Stella Eau de Parfum Purse Spray ($50).

Having only one class in the late afternoon on Mondays are always a toss-up when it comes to make-up and laziness. On one hand, I have the time to get fancy with my make-up and try something new, but on the other, why waste a perfectly good product for only going out for a handful of products? Nevertheless, I wanted to highlight a newbie today.

Buxom's Sculpted Lash Mascara ($19) is something I surprisingly received in my POPSUGAR Must Have subscription box for the month of March. This is the only subscription box that I have left, and it's more of a lifestyle box compared to Birchbox or Glossybox. Which, while we're on the subject, I hear that Ipsy is the only beauty subscription box that's worth the money these days. I digress.

As far as mascara go, I am pretty damn loyal to my Lancome Hypnose Drama Waterproof mascara. It does a great job with lengthening and volumizing, which is everything a girl could ask in a mascara, right? Well, I'll be perfectly honest, the Lancome mascara definitely brings the drama, and lately, I have been noticing that it clumps a little too much for my liking for an every-day look. Surely, the spider-lashes are fun for when I am feeling like the female version of a hustla, but I don't know if walking in to my Criminal Procedure/Constitutional Law class is the proper place for me to give good face slash lashes.

My main concern when it comes to mascaras is whether it'll smudge underneath the eyes at the end of the day. The reason why I shell out a little more money for the Lancome mascara is because I know I will never have to do that god-awful wiping of underneath the eye in the middle of the day, just to make sure there's no black marks smearing across my face. I know I will never have that problem with Lancome, and as much as I love Benefit's They're Real! Mascara, I know I'll constantly check mirrors and windows to make sure I don't look a fool.

So I'm giving this Buxom mascara a good run. I have noticed a few smudges here and there, but nothing too extreme and it happens mostly while the mascara is setting and drying. It isn't the worst experience, but it also isn't perfect compared to my precious Lancome.

But what I have noticed the most is how much I love the wand.

I hope you are thoroughly enjoying this awkward close up of a mascara wand. But I had to show it off to give you the full effect of the "S-shaped" brush. It's very similar to the Lancome wand, but the bristles are closer together, giving the lashes a more separated look, rather than clumping too many together.

I'm going to wear it for the rest of the day, just to make sure my newfound love for this Buxom mascara isn't premature, but I have to say, because of it's price, Buxom might be kicking Lancome out of the champion's spot.

I know the smudging problem could be due to my concealer, especially because I tend to wear Bobbi Brown's Creamy Concealer under my eyes, but I don't know if the concealer or the mascara is the problem. I'll ramble on about my love/hate relationship with Bobbi Brown's concealer at a later date, but while I have you here, does anyone else know how to remedy smudging? Send help.

  1. I've used Buxom before (I'm using Smashbox mascara now) but haven't dealt with smudging.. it could be the concealer! If a mascara is a little more "wet," I'll put an old business card or some sort of card behind my lashes while I put on my mascara. That's the only trick I can think of!

    1. Yeah! I've used the card trick before. I don't know. I want to say it's the concealer, but I've used a couple different concealers and it still doesn't do the trick. It's also a problem because my lashes are more straight than curly. It's just something I have to live through, I suppose! Thanks darling!
